All Have Sinned - Part 4 of the Sin Series

Podcast Notes: "All Have Sinned" Part 4 Sin Series
Reverends Michele Owes and Diana P. Cherry
Introduction:
Welcome back to The Teachable Woman Podcast! Rev. Michele Owes and Rev. Diana P. Cherry lead a powerful discussion on the universal impact of sin and the greater, redemptive power of righteousness through Jesus Christ. With a mix of heartfelt teaching, personal reflections, and biblical truth, this episode encourages every listener to embrace God's grace and walk boldly in forgiveness and restoration.
1. The Relevance of God’s Word Over Trends
Rev. Cherry reminds us that, though language and culture evolve, God’s word remains timeless and unchanging. As believers, we don’t have to conform to cultural expressions or trends to stay relevant—we’re called to stay rooted in truth.
2. Understanding Sin: Missing the Mark
Rev. Owes emphasizes that sin is defined as "missing the mark"—falling short of the high calling of God. Sin separates us from God, but righteousness restores us. Every person has sinned, but there's redemption through Jesus.
3. One Man’s Sin, One Man’s Righteousness
Through Adam, all inherited sin, but through Jesus Christ, all can receive righteousness. The hosts challenge listeners to consider not just the damage sin causes, but the powerful impact their personal obedience can have in their families, communities, and nation.
4. Forgiveness: A Gift We Must Accept and Extend
Rev. Cherry speaks passionately about the importance of forgiving ourselves once God has forgiven us. Lingering guilt can keep us from moving forward, but grace is available—every single day. Start each morning fresh with a resolve to live right.
5. Rebellion as Sin: A Spiritual Reflection
Using the image of a rebellious child, Rev. Owes explains how our disobedience mirrors rebellion against God. Instead of rationalizing sin, we're encouraged to humbly confess and seek God's cleansing.
6. God’s Forgiveness Is Greater Than Any Sin
No sin—no matter how severe—is beyond God's ability to forgive. Rev. Cherry reminds us that guilt and shame aren’t from God. They keep us from approaching Him, when in fact, repentance brings us right back into fellowship.
7. Move On and Walk in Purpose
Rev. Cherry shares a personal testimony about how God used her season of loss to birth new purpose in her life. She encourages others not to linger in grief or guilt—staying in a place of regret leads to stagnation. God wants us to move forward, forgive ourselves, and pursue our calling.
Summary:
This episode offers a deep dive into the nature of sin, the promise of forgiveness, and the power of righteous living. Rev. Owes and Rev. Cherry share spiritual insight and practical wisdom, urging listeners to let go of guilt, embrace grace, and walk in the fullness of God's plan. No matter your past, there's a new day, a clean slate, and a call to righteousness waiting for you.

Reverends Michele Owes and Diana P. Cherry
Rev. Michele Owes: [00:00:00] Welcome, welcome, welcome back to the Teachable Woman Podcast. Mrs. Cherry and I are excited to be with you today. Thank you so much for tuning into our podcast and for sharing it with your family and friends. Thank you again for all of you who registered for the Teachable Woman Retreat. We are excited about those of you who have yet to register and will go ahead and do that today.
Rev. Michele Owes: Mrs. Cherry, say hello to our podcast family.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: Hello, Podcast family. I pray you're strong in the Lord and in the power of his might. Pray that you are taking the teachings that we pour out very seriously. you. For you, it is my fervent prayer that, once in a while, go back and listen to some of the good things you've already been taught. [00:01:00] The word of God never grows old. To grow and develop, we must keep up to date. We have to stay fresh in the things of God. So be fresh today in the
Rev. Michele Owes: Be fresh. You know, sometimes we are fresh in the things of the world. Example I gave something to my granddaughter, and she thought it was good, and she said, Grandma, this is busing, busing. Oh, okay. I'm confused. What does that mean? Do you mean busting? Busting? It's busting out so well.
Rev. Michele Owes: Like she said. No, it's busting. Busting. And so I looked over at her dad. I said, clue me in. He said it. She means it's really good. And I'm thinking, I am trying to connect what busing, busing means. I'm going back to busing way back in the early sixties. You know what I mean? Hey. Don't even need to know that.
Rev. Michele Owes: I got it. I have [00:02:00] understanding now. It was good, but as it relates to the word of God, we have got to get in there, stay in there, and cast all our cares upon him because he cares for us. Amen.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: Amen. You know, while you, I know we're not into the teaching, but it just occurred to me, you know, I pray that all of our listeners resolve their hearts. I want all of you to resolve in your hearts just because the world's vernacular has changed. Remember, we don't have to change.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: God's word is rich enough that we don't ever. Have to change what we believe and how we do just to look like the world or talk like the world, or be like the world. Be strong with your children. You don't have to change their speech to align with what everybody else is saying. It's just a thought on my heart.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: You know me.
Rev. Michele Owes: I understand. I remember when I was [00:03:00] growing up and we would say something, oh, that's bad, but we meant it was good. You know what I mean? So anybody else who knew the word's definition did not understand what we meant. It's, it is the conversation of the day and of the age, and it's okay not to understand it fully.
Rev. Michele Owes: I don't feel bad that I didn't understand. I just ask, Hey, what does that mean?
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: That's
Rev. Michele Owes: Alright, so we have been talking about that three-letter word that has a monumental impact on our lives today, and it's called sin. And we know sin separates us from God. We talked about some definitions of sin, and they are to be missed.
Rev. Michele Owes: We know that missing the mark because the mark is God's high calling in Christ Jesus. We also know that all have sinned and come short [00:04:00] of the glory of God, and that's going to be what we're talking about today, that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. In our review, we talked about the fact that sin separates.
Rev. Michele Owes: That it causes us to move away from the pack, if you will, causes us to be drawn away. And oftentimes it's by our own lust. But we want to be very clear today in the fact that sin is something that one man did, and then we all became sinners, and then one man. Lived a righteous life, died, was raised from the dead so that we all might be saved.
Rev. Michele Owes: And we left you with a profound thought. What is the devastation of our sin to our families, communities, and our nation? And then what would be the [00:05:00] impact of our righteousness? Just to obey God.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: Mm-hmm.
Rev. Michele Owes: Because by that one man, Jesus Christ, we were all saved. What could the impact of our righteousness be?
Rev. Michele Owes: In our families, in our communities, in our world?
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: Mm-hmm.
Rev. Michele Owes: Mrs. Cherry
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: My goodness.
Rev. Michele Owes: with us.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: That is so profound and absolutely true by one man's sin. All have sinned and we're born in sin shaped in inequity, be encouraged because by one person's righteousness. You, we can change the whole world. Jesus Christ came. He gave all of us life.
Rev. Michele Owes: Yeah.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: of his unselfish act
Rev. Michele Owes: Hmm.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: Paying the penalty for sin, he has made us righteous. And now what we have to do is act right, [00:06:00] righteousness. It's like a two-part thing. He has done his part, and now we have to act right. We have to be right and live our lives with all that is in us to make our lives make a difference in the lives of others, and we can do that sin. power. Sin is long-lasting
Rev. Michele Owes: Yes.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: Sin is very influential, but righteousness is stronger and the grace of God is stronger than any sin that we ever have committed or could commit. So God has forgiven us for whatever it is. If we ask for forgiveness, the word of God
Rev. Michele Owes: Mm-hmm.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: Faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: So we have to forgive yourself. I said that before. Forgive yourself or
Rev. Michele Owes: Yes.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: 'cause God's, God's forgiven us. then. [00:07:00] you are still struggling with something that you did, you know, I should have, could have would've, why did I forget
Rev. Michele Owes: Mm-hmm.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: And know
Rev. Michele Owes: Mm-hmm.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: has forgiven you, and so
Rev. Michele Owes: Mm-hmm.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: yourself and make a resolve in your heart that you're gonna walk in a newness of life.
Rev. Michele Owes: Mm-hmm.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: man is dead and you know every day when you wake up, just make a public confession to yourself. God has forgiven me. I've given myself. There's no difference in me and any other human being. I'm just one of the, many of the all who have sinned. But God, God has
Rev. Michele Owes: Mm-hmm.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: me. And so now with all that is in within me, I'm going to give myself, I'm gonna walk cleansed today.
Rev. Michele Owes: Mm-hmm.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: your day like that and just every day start with a clean slate and purpose in your heart that this day you're not gonna do that. Sin, God, you've cleansed me from it this [00:08:00] day I'm not gonna do that. And sometimes we really have to talk to ourselves a lot
Rev. Michele Owes: Yes,
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: to get
Rev. Michele Owes: yes.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: back on track. But know, you are fine with God. You have a problem with yourself, but God is, God is fine with us. You know, once we have confessed that sin,
Rev. Michele Owes: Mm-hmm.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: forgiven ourselves, God is okay with us.
Rev. Michele Owes: Mm-hmm.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: you. God loves me.
Rev. Michele Owes: Yes.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: And he knows we're
Rev. Michele Owes: Yes.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: He knows that the only one that's perfect was his son, Jesus Christ. so sometimes we're just so hard on each other.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: If
Rev. Michele Owes: Mm-hmm.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: I mean, even if we have a slip in conversation, we responded in a way that we should not have. We're down in the dumps. Pick yourself up. Don't allow anybody anything to cause you distress. We have to overcome the distress in our lives and work to build ourselves up.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: The 00:09:00 word of God says, edify yourself with the Word of God.
Rev. Michele Owes: Right.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: encouraged himself in
Rev. Michele Owes: Yes. In the Lord. Yes, he did. Yes.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: just have to, even if you can't sing, just sing a song. Do something for. Do something for yourself. Talk to yourself. I
Rev. Michele Owes: Yes.
Rev. Michele Owes: You know, they used to say if yourself and you answer back, there was a problem.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: I was getting ready to say I talked to myself, but so far thank God I haven't answered myself back, so, so I'm okay, I really want to encourage us, every person alive I. Has committed some sin, but God will forgive every person alive for the sin they've
Rev. Michele Owes: Mm-hmm.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: and we must forgive ourselves. Pick ourselves up and go on
Rev. Michele Owes: Yes.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: our work for the Lord.
Rev. Michele Owes: Mm-hmm. You know one of the definitions for sin was rebellion against God and. I had the thought of, you know, [00:10:00] when we see those children who are in the store and they're just rebelling against their parent because they're, you're not buying this or you're not, can't go here or can't do that, and just think of how we feel when we are going.
Rev. Michele Owes: We, we see this visual, right? We have all these thoughts in our mind that child just need to spank and somebody need to pick them up and take them outta here and save the rest of us. Or, you know, ain't no discipline at the house. All the thoughts that go through our minds. We look the same way. When we don't obey God, when, when the lure and the temptation of sin draws us away, we are really rebelling against what we know that God would have for us.
Rev. Michele Owes: And the thing about sin is it's, it's, it's such a negative, it's a destroyer. It's a danger, and it damages our souls. The damage to our soul can't be repaired with medicine or another new [00:11:00] thing, a new house or car. And you know, sometimes what we do is we enrich our lives, per se, with stuff and things when what we need to do is enhance our prayer life with the Lord and just run to him and say, God, I didn't do this right.
Rev. Michele Owes: I knew better, but I chose. My flesh drove me, and my mind rationalized me into whatever, but I did this thing. As David said, I and I alone have sinned against thee, and if we just come clean with God, you know, we don't want to play the blame game that Adam and Eve played, just come clean with God. He is faithful to forgive us and to cleanse us.
Rev. Michele Owes: To understand that all have sinned and come short of the glory should help us out of the doldrums. Because ALL means none left behind, there are no perfect people. [00:12:00] Mrs. Cherry and I have sinned, and all have sinned, and come short of the glory, but God.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: but
Rev. Michele Owes: We know from experience that God is faithful and just, forgiving us and cleansing us of all our sins.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: all
Rev. Michele Owes: unrighteousness.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: Amen.
Rev. Michele Owes: Yes.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: The thing about sin, that's so devastating about sin, is that it separates us. It separates us from God. And so because we know that God is not pleased when we do things and we know that at that point we're separated, we
Rev. Michele Owes: Mm-hmm.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: guilt trips rather
Rev. Michele Owes: Yes. Yes,
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: to our knees immediately.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: Asking for forgiveness immediately, forgiving ourselves. Immediately
Rev. Michele Owes: Yes.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: game. How could I have done that? Why did I, I know
Rev. Michele Owes: Yes.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: for get all that stuff drop to your knees, all have sinned and come
Rev. Michele Owes: [00:13:00] Mm-hmm.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: of God. You just joined in with all and do now what you know now to do. Which is to immediately get that
Rev. Michele Owes: Yes.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: on track with God.
Rev. Michele Owes: Right.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: Guilt separates us.
Rev. Michele Owes: Mm-hmm.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: us stay separated. Guilt makes us think that God is like us and he's
Rev. Michele Owes: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: forgives us no matter what we do. No matter how horrible it is, things that you and I wouldn't even think of doing, murdering somebody or committing well, we, I don't know if we can do that or not.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: Rape or things like horrible things that we can't even do, we can't even fathom. even the people who have fallen short of his glory, even the people who've committed those sins.
Rev. Michele Owes: But yeah.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: still forgive the worst offender. And
Rev. Michele Owes: Yes.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: I, I see people on television sometimes and they've had horrible atrocities committed against them. And it breaks my heart when I hear a [00:14:00] mere human being say, I'll never forgive them. I. I can't forgive them.
Rev. Michele Owes: Mm-hmm.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: us have the nerve not to forgive somebody after all that God has forgiven
Rev. Michele Owes: Mm-hmm.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: of, you know? So, you know, sin is serious. It's very sin serious. It separates,
Rev. Michele Owes: Mm-hmm.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: the antidote for sin is quickly repent.
Rev. Michele Owes: Mm-hmm.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: pick yourself back up quickly. Ask God to forgive you, quickly. Forgive yourself, and then put your head back. Lift your head up, put your shoulders back, and walk on in the
Rev. Michele Owes: And walk on.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: Walk on in righteousness. You can get right back on track with God. That's what's so beautiful about him. You know, you know, I re I remember when pastor, when my husband first passed and I was just complaining God stopped me in my tracks and I know I've shared this before.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: And he said, [00:15:00] what are you gonna thank me?
Rev. Michele Owes: Yeah.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: the hand, the head and the hips. What do you mean? Thank you. Thank you for what? And what? God answered me, blew me away. And he said, thank me for what I have delivered you from.
Rev. Michele Owes: My Lord.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: And now six years later he's been gone and I'm so busy doing this, that and the other.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: And. It's no way I could have written one book and almost finished writing a second book, and I have about five other books lined up to
Rev. Michele Owes: Mm-hmm.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: no way I could have done this had I, you know, had I. Had had he, my husband had been there 'cause I spent all my time serving him.
Rev. Michele Owes: Right, right.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: you know, just run to God, whatever it
Rev. Michele Owes: Yes.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: he
Rev. Michele Owes: Yes.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: shoulders, he'll receive our tears, he'll
Rev. Michele Owes: Yes.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: our pain. He will. And then what we have to do is just resolve that we are gonna continue in his
Rev. Michele Owes: Mm-hmm.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: We're gonna [00:16:00] get forgiveness and we're gonna go on with our lives. Move on.
Rev. Michele Owes: Amen. Amen.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: place is no place for you to hang out. There's no growth, no productivity, and after a while it stinks.
Rev. Michele Owes: Ooh.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: Move on. Get out of that rut that you're in.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: Pull
Rev. Michele Owes: Mm-hmm.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: up out of it because God's forgiven you.
Rev. Michele Owes: Yes.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: What can man do to you? God has forgiven you, and so please forgive yourself. Please know
Rev. Michele Owes: Amen.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: Sister Os and I have done just as much as anybody else has done. Well, we haven't killed nobody. Well, I hope not. Maybe, maybe with our words we have.
Rev. Michele Owes: look, we both said, well at the same time, if you've done it in your mind, have that is not funny.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: But the bottom line is God's forgiven. You forgive yourself. Get up, pick up your [00:17:00] grace do the best that you can do. Be the best you can be.
Rev. Michele Owes: Amen. Listen, I had an experience today that I'm gonna take a moment and share with you all. I was on my way to work and I was thinking about all of the things that I am in my mind responsible for, and all the things that I am working to achieve, but not only for my life, but for the life of others and, and all that I want.
Rev. Michele Owes: You know, for my family, and when I say that, I'm not talking about stuffing things. I want them to live a right life in Christ Jesus. I mean, every member nieces, nephews, great aunts, uncles, cousin, I want my family in good standing with the Lord, right? So my hopes for them is not a hope and a, a house and a car, but I.
Rev. Michele Owes: That's okay, but I want them in right standing with God. Right. So when things happen, you know, my, my view of what has happened I tend [00:18:00] to look at it with the scripture that I know I. And I make, my thoughts are in alignment with that. So, but anyway, the, the burden became a little heavy for all of the expectations, if you will, that I have and all that I so desire to see happen in the lives of my family.
Rev. Michele Owes: And, it got heavy for me today, and, and I got teary. My eyes were just watering. But then, then I had this very carnal thought, which was, girl, you have put your makeup on. We are not, we, we are not going back home to do it, so just stop it. But I started just. Reciting scripture that I knew. Just the joy of the Lord is my strength.
Rev. Michele Owes: Just, just reciting scripture. Before I knew it, I broke out into a song. Now I have to be clear. I cannot sing the scripture. It's in the Bible that says, make a joyful noise unto the Lord. All ye lands. That was there just for me to feel included, [00:19:00] but I can't sing. But I broke out in song I, I went through these scriptures and then the burden was just lifted off of me.
Rev. Michele Owes: The tears just went away, and so I ended up having to apologize to God because his word says to cast all of my cares upon him. I wasn't casting them. I was counting them. And I recognized that I had stepped in an area that I had no grace to be in because he wants to lift all of my burdens. But I was trying to count them for me to see what I could do with, and the answer to that is nothing because I am not the Holy Spirit.
Rev. Michele Owes: I can't take the burdens of other people. I can't make people live the way I think they ought in Christ Jesus or make life set itself up so that they can live for Christ. The bottom line is this, I had to apologize to my God for stepping in his area. [00:20:00] Because I cannot fix the issues of other people's lives or my own without him because he's asked me to cast my cares up on him because he cares for me.
Rev. Michele Owes: And instead of casting, I was counting If you by any chance have found yourself in the position that I found myself in this morning where life is. Felt is beginning to feel heavy and the burdens are beginning to feel greater than you are, and the situations are more than you can naturally fathom. Cast the care up on the Lord.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: Mm-hmm.
Rev. Michele Owes: Whether it's sin, whether it's your desire to help someone in their life situation, whether you can or whether you can't. Whatever those burdens are, cast those cares up on the Lord because he cares for you.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: Amen.
Rev. Michele Owes: same power that raised Jesus from the dead, the Holy Ghost power lives on the inside of us, [00:21:00] and the Holy Ghost can do.
Rev. Michele Owes: So much more than we can
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: Mm-hmm.
Rev. Michele Owes: cast the care. When I began to cast the care and sing in my terrible voice and recite scriptures, God began to move in my own heart and he lifted that burden from me
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: Mm-hmm.
Rev. Michele Owes: because I recognized that I didn't have the grace for what I was trying to do, which was count what things I needed to do and take care of when in fact he wanted to take care of it all.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: Amen. Matthew 1129 says, take my yolk upon you.
Rev. Michele Owes: Yes
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: for I am meek and lowly in heart, ye shall find rest unto your souls. Now, God wants us to be yoked. You know,
Rev. Michele Owes: yes.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: of a little yoke around your neck. Just yolk up with the right one. Who is God? Get yoked up with God. And then verse 30 says, for my yoke. easy [00:22:00] and my burden is
Rev. Michele Owes: Yes.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: So when
Rev. Michele Owes: Yes.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: ourselves heavy laden,
Rev. Michele Owes: Mm-hmm.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: yolk up with God, tie up with him. Let him rope. You know, he ain't gonna kill you. Let him put a, a yolk around your neck. Tie him up, let him lead you like a little puppy or calf, but yolk up with him
Rev. Michele Owes: Yes.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: because
Rev. Michele Owes: Yes.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: you know his yoke is easy burden is light, and he
Rev. Michele Owes: Yes.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: want us carrying. Those burdens, but rather he wants us to, what did you say? Cast them. I
Rev. Michele Owes: Yeah. Don't count them, cast them.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: Don't count 'em. Don't carry them. Cast them.
Rev. Michele Owes: Right, right. Don't count and don't carry cast that.
Rev. Diana P. Cherry: right. Put 'em in the, yeah, put put 'em in the seal, forgetfulness.
Rev. Michele Owes: That's right. That is absolutely right. Well, that is bringing us to the end of this podcast. We pray that God was able to minister to you through it. We, [00:23:00] again, are humbled and honored that you allowed us to come into your homes. We pray that everything we share is drawing you closer to our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus.
Rev. Michele Owes: Because without him, we can absolutely do nothing. Thank you for joining us on the podcast. We wanna see you in Houston, Texas, which we call H Town. That's a little slang for Ms. Cherry in H July 17th through 20. Our teaching will end on the 19th, so if you need to get out of Dodge and get back by the 20th, book your flight to be able to do that.

Rev. Diana P. Cherry: Amen. Don't forget, cast that burden on him. Don't you dare carry it. You are. You are [00:24:00] not strong enough to carry any of it. Love you much. See you in Houston. God bless you.
